The longest paperclip chain constructed by a single person was made by Thomas Paul (Germany) in 1992. His 2500 metre (8,202 ft) long chain was made from 111,000 paperclips. For his attempt, he used the holiday from school.
On 13 February 2004, Dan Meyer (USA) with the help of some 25 clip-pushers and spool-spinners assembled a 1,629 metre (5,340 ft) long paperclip chain, using 54,030 paperclips in the process – the longest constructed by a single person in 24 hours.
